 What Can I expect?

You should expect to have fun and enjoy the learning process! Handing firearms for the first time can be intimidating but very rewarding and fun. Both the CFSC and the CRFSC are interactive courses with a combination of lectures, class discussions and hands on firearm handling. All Firearms in the classroom are deactivated and all ammunition is inert/dummy rounds. We provide a safe interactive learning environment.

The CFSC is a minimum of 8 hours of instruction. Please be prepared to be at the class from 8:45 am to 8 - 10 pm depending on exams and the class. CRFSC is a minimum of 6 hours of instruction. There will be bathroom breaks and a lunch break throughout the day for either course.

  • CFSC Prerequisite: Minimum 12 years of age and a signed parental consent form.

  • Minors (12 - 17 years of age) are able to sit on the CRFSC for education purposes but will be require to retake the course when they reach the age of majority and wish to apply for their restricted firearms license.

  • Students are NOT permitted to bring firearms or ammunition into the classroom.

  • Photo ID is required at the beginning of course and each day if participating in a dual CFSC/CRFSC.

  • Anyone arriving to class impaired will be asked to leave and will forfeit the cost of the course.

  • The course manual is highly recommended and is available for purchase online through FSESO https://www.fseso.org/ and also available for download online.

How do I get my firearms license?

  • The first step is to complete your firearms safety training.

  • You will need to pass each exam with a minimum of 80%.

  • The course documentation and completed exams are than sent to The Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO). FSESO will reviewed and approve your documentation and completed exams. You will receive official documentation that you have completed the required training by mail.

  • You will than send your proof of training, application and photo to the RCMP.

Cancellations

These policies help ensure that we have appropriate class-sizes to conduct our classes. Each course fee includes an administration fee of $20 that is non-refundable and a deposit of $50. Courses can be canceled and refunded, less the administration fee, with more than 10 days’ written notice. Anyone wishing to cancel with less than 10 days’ notice will lose the deposit and the admin fee. Any one providing less than 5 days notice of cancellation shall forfeit the total cost of any courses as no refund shall be given. Please note when purchasing a combined course or multiple courses for your and your friends the cost includes one admin fee and multiple deposits. It is a $50 deposit per course.

Private Group classes are non-refundable


Rescheduling

Request to reschedule a course with less then 10 days notice will cost $50 per course. There is no rescheduling of courses with less then 5 days notice.

Lateness

If you are late you will not be permitted to attend the class and will not receive a refund. 100% course attendance is required to complete the test


What If I Fail?

Unfortunately failures do happen. No one can guarantee that you will pass the course. We teach everything you need to know to be both successful and safe because of this we have a great success rate. If you do fail either the written or the practical tests we will go over the areas that you struggled with and give you the options for a retest. Retests cost $60 plus tax and must be completed with in 30 days of the course.


Minors ID requirements

For the minors taking the course a parent or legal guardian will need to sign paperwork.

Government photo ID is required to take the course for minors between 12 - 15 there are a few options

  1. Government photo ID such as a passport

  2. Birth Certificate and the parent/legal guardian with government issued photo ID

  3. Birth Certificate plus photo Student ID


Tips for Success

  • Come to class well rested

  • Bring food and snacks to keep you fueled through out the day

  • Bring a pen and paper

  • depending on your learning style and needs, review the manual ahead of time

  • Arrive early to take a moment to relax before the day begins

  • During testing take your time and read the questions carefully

  • Participate in class discussions and review questions


Course Manual

The course manual is highly recommended. We sell the manual for $21 the day of the course. Instructions on how to purchase the manual will be emailed out as the class date approaches. The written test at the end of the day is closed book meaning no notes or manuals are allowed during the exam. A digital version of the manual is available by the clicking the link below.
